Based on TCCA’s successful holiday education program that provides support to Turkish Speaking children that are under achieving in primary school.
TCCA has started to work with 10 schools (in five boroughs (two in each borough (identified as those with the highest concentration of Turkish/Kurdish young people)),
The formula adopted to help the children is by introducing parents to initiatives that help them become more involved in their child’s education.
The process is facilitated by weekly sessions that parents are encouraged to attend with their children then work together with the school on how techniques that can be used within the framework of homework, in general this sees a dramatic improvement in achievement levels.
Unfortunately the project is on volunteer basis which limits the time allocated towards delivery of the project. In order to move the project forward we aim to attract funding and have a number of applications that we are awaiting decision on.
